Re: Illness
Outbreak Update
Greetings.
We continue to experience incidents of a gastrointestinal virus affecting residents and staff, now primarily in the licensed care areas of Hallowell Hall and Taylor Hall. We have seen no new incidents in the campus clusters and Stony Run Hall since early last week.
Symptoms include nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. As noted previously, a person who has been ill during this outbreak must remain at home for 48 hours after his/her last symptoms. Campus cluster residents are to report symptoms to OPD who will arrange for meal delivery, as needed. Staff are to report symptoms to their supervisor.
As a result, we will continue with our plan for the licensed care areas:
· Refrain from visiting Hallowell Hall and Taylor Hall. If your work requires you to be in those areas, please wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water before entering and again upon leaving. Alcohol hand gels typically do not kill these viruses.
· Residents living in Hallowell Hall and Taylor Hall are limited to their rooms, with meals being served to them and all group activities cancelled; Staff working in licensed care are restricted from use of the Arbor Café.
· We will lift the above restrictions in the licensed care areas as soon as we have gone 4 days with no new occurrences;
· As of today, we are resuming campus cluster apartment cleaning and wellness classes. The pool and exercise room are open as usual.
· We will reschedule the Welcome Coffee planned for tonight (Monday, January 30th) due to the increased opportunity to spread the virus through hand contact in the receiving line. All other events and activities in the Community Center can proceed as planned.
Please see me, Barbara Carroll, Medical Director, Heather Heiler in OPD or Kris George on Hallowell Hall with questions.
