Re: Flu Outbreak
Greetings.
Broadmead is currently experiencing an outbreak of a gastrointestinal flu. This is affecting residents and staff in all areas, though the higher incident rates are in the licensed care areas of Hallowell Hall and Taylor Hall. Symptoms include nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. Per the Baltimore County Health Department, a person who has been ill during this outbreak must remain at home for 48 hours after his/her last symptoms. Campus cluster residents are to report symptoms to OPD who will arrange for meal delivery, as needed. Staff are to report symptoms to their supervisor.
In the meantime, following consultation with our medical staff, we are implementing the following plan with the hope of slowing the virus:
· Refrain from visiting Hallowell Hall and Taylor Hall. If your work requires you to be in those areas, please wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water before entering and again upon leaving. Alcohol hand gels typically do not kill these types of viruses;
· Residents living in Hallowell Hall and Taylor Hall are limited to their rooms, with meals being served to them and all group activities cancelled;
· Campus cluster apartment cleaning is cancelled for this afternoon through the weekend;
· Wellness classes are cancelled and, the pool and exercise room are closed through the weekend.
Please see me, Heather Heiler in OPD or Kris George on Hallowell Hall with questions.
