
Founded in 2007, The C-Street Brass is solely comprised of musicians from the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University.With a distinct and unified interpretation and sound, C-Street Brass has quickly established itself as a leading ensemble in the Mid-Atlantic region.Placing a premium on concert presentation, the group is dedicated to providing audiences with a wide range of repertoire, from classical standards to wildly entertaining theatrics, all geared towards establishing a strong, personal connection with audiences. Mentored by trumpeter Joe Burgstaller, (of BM4, and formerly of Canadian Brass, Meridian Arts Ensemble) C-Street Brass has received high acclaim from world renowned musicians such as Wynton Marsalis, Chris Botti, members of Manhattan Brass, Boston Brass, R.M Philadelphia Big Brass, and the Peabody Institute faculty, as well as from audiences around the East Coast and Midwest.The group is equally committed to the advancement of the brass quintet repertoire and has commissioned several pieces, most recently a work for brass and organ by the composer David Conte, to be premiered in February with international organ soloist and scholar Donald Sutherland.C-Street Brass has performed in many prestigious venues including the Kennedy Center and were the guest soloists in 2010 with the National Honor Band of America at Clowes Hall. Gabriel Colby. Born in Avon, Connecticut, Gabriel Colby started his musical studies on piano at the age of five. Gabriel was already very familiar with private study and performance when he discovered trombone in fifth grade. Gabriel participated in a variety of summer programs.He played principal trombone in the United States Youth Wind Ensemble which toured six European countries, and was a participant in the Hartwick Summer Festival and Institute, winning the concerto competition while attending. More recently Gabriel was principal trombone of the Kennedy Center Summer Institute Orchestra. Gabriel was also a co-winner of the United States Coast Guard Band Concerto Competition where he went on to perform in Leamy Hall accompanied by the Coast Guard Band. Currently Gabriel is Assistant Principal of the Peabody Symphony Orchestra. Gabriel studied with George Sanders of the Hartford Symphony Orchestra, while attending High School and now continues his musical pursuits at the Peabody Conservatory studying with James Olin, Assistant Principal Baltimore Symphony Orchestra.
Scott Nadelson. Originally from New Jersey, Scott Nadelson is currently pursuing his trumpet performance degree at the Peabody Conservatory, studying with Joe Burgstaller and Edward Hoffman.
As a Senior Scott is Principal of the Peabody Concert Orchestra and is lead trumpet in the Jazz Orchestra. Recent performance venues include The Kennedy Center for the Arts and Clowes Hall as a Guest Artist with the Honor Band of America.
Scott has performed in masterclasses for artists Wynton Marsalis, Joe Burgstaller, Wayne du Maine, Rodney Mack, Rene Hernandez, and Canadian Brass. Past teachers include Chris Jaudes and John Bunnel.
Scott also enjoys being a freelance photographer in the Baltimore area.
John Ehrenburg. A native of New Jersey, John Ehrenburg began his musical studies at the age of eight. He started his formal training under the tutelage of Dr. John H. Bunnell and David L. Martin, and later received further instruction from Charles Bumcrot of Montclair State University. John is now a student of Joe Burgstaller and Edward Hoffman in his third year at the Peabody Conservatory, where he is pursuing two undergraduate degrees in trumpet performance and music education.
Since entering the Peabody Conservatory, John has performed extensively with the Peabody Wind Ensemble, Brass Ensemble and Jazz Orchestra. He is currently the Co-Principal of the Peabody Concert Orchestra. In 2008, John was selected as a semifinalist for the National Trumpet Competition. Most recently he was awarded second prize in the Livingston Symphony Orchestra Young Artists Concerto Competition. John has performed in master classes for Rodney Mack, Wayne du Maine, Susan Slaughter, Jeff Nelsen, Charles Lazarus, Joe Burgstaller and the Canadian Brass.
Haim Mazar. Born in Israel, Haim Mazar started his musical studies on violin at the age of seven. Haim wanted to do his military service with the Israeli Army Band and since marching with a violin is out of the ordinary he was encouraged to play the tuba, which he started playing at the age of fifteen under the tutelage of Ariel Sasson and Adi Hershko, principal tubist of the Israeli Philharmonic Orchestra. Since fall 2006 Haim has been pursuing a tuba performance degree at the Peabody Conservatory where he studied with Toby Hanks, and is now studying with David Fedderly, principal tubist of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. Haim performed with many orchestras including the Israeli Army Band (2003-2006), the Israeli Philharmonic Orchestra (June 2007), the Chautauqua Music Festival Orchestra, the Peabody Symphony Orchestra and more.
Joe Hughes. Originally from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Joe Hughes began studying the French horn at the age of 14 with Carl Iezzi, and later, Pittsburgh Symphony member Robert Lauver.
Currently, Joe is in his fourth year at the Peabody Music Conservatory pursuing a performance degree in the French horn. He is also the recipient of both the Louis Blaustein and The Yale Brody Memorial Scholarships. Aside from his studies at Peabody, he is a faculty member at the Peabody Preparatory.
As an orchestral player, Joe has held the Principal horn positions in the Peabody Symphony Orchestra, the Peabody Concert Orchestra, and the Peabody Wind Ensemble. Joe has also played with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. He has performed in such prestigious venues as Heinz Hall, The Kimmel Center, The Music Center at Strathmore, The Meyerhoff Symphony Hall, Merkin Hall, and The Kennedy Center under conductors such as Hajime Teri-Murai, Gustav Meier, Marin Alsop, and Leon Fleisher.
