Concert Series
for the 2011-2012 season
We at Broadmead are an intellectually active group of folks. For many of us classical music is a passion. To cultivate this passion. for ourselves, our families and our friends, we maintain one of the Baltimore areas best classical chamber music series. This we achieve with a carefully thought out musical series with established professional musicians and talented young professional who are just beginning their careers. We strive for musical balance (something for everyone) with an active season of 8 concerts. Our setting is intimate and informal and allows for an easy exchange between artist and audience. Musical discussions and question and answer session are usually part of each concert. We love Chamber Music.

THe Mark Meadows Jazz Trio
Sunday, February 12, 2012

Broadmead was treated to the sounds of the Mark Meadows Jazz Trio on Sunday, Feb. 12, 2012 as part of the BRA 2011-12 Musical Season. Mark Meadows (piano) generally started each piece with a seemly unrelated set of chords of different syncopation and inversions. He then smoothly morphed this sound into an easily recognizable theme. The bass (Shawn Simon) and drums (Eric Kennedy) then joined in, each improvising in turn and each taking solo runs. The combined sound was smooth yet complex while at the same time appearing as if coming from one individual. Mark and Shawn would often play off each other in a “call and response” manner while supported by the integrated rhythms of Eric Kennedy. I just loved the way Shawn took a theme, played a figuration around each principal note yet the underlining theme was still easily recognizable. It was truly a miraculous performance.
