Re: Illness
Outbreak Update
Greetings.
We are returning to normal operations in all areas of Broadmead starting tomorrow, January 10th. This decision was made as a result of a significant reduction in new incidents among campus cluster and Stony Run residents, no new incidents among residents in licensed care, and in consultation with Baltimore County Health Department. As noted previously, a person who has been ill during this outbreak must remain at home for 48 hours after his/her last symptoms. Campus cluster residents are to report symptoms to OPD who will arrange for meal delivery, as needed. Staff are to report symptoms to their supervisor.
Residents who report they are ill will be provided food trays. In addition, we are cancelling scheduled housekeeping and routine maintenance in those apartments;
Baltimore County Health Department continues to encourage hands thoroughly with soap and water before entering and again upon leaving.
Thank you to each person, resident and staff, who is doing their part to slow the spread of this current illness outbreak.
Please see me, Barbara Carroll, Medical Director, Heather Heiler in OPD, Kris George on Hallowell Hall or Rita Johnson Chase on Taylor Hall with questions.

In an effort to contain the recent spread of illness in the campus clusters and Stony Run Hall (20 reported incidents), we want to limit group activities. · All group activities are cancelled (staff or residents);
· Holly Terrace and Magnolia Room are closed for seated service;
· Arbor Café open for takeout meals only;
· Wellness programs are cancelled and the Fitness Room and pool are closed;
· The Community Center will remain open for access to mail, banking, etc.
· As noted previously, a person who has been ill during this outbreak must remain at home for 48 hours after his/her last symptoms. Campus cluster residents are to report symptoms to OPD who will arrange for meal delivery, as needed. Staff are to report symptoms to their supervisor.
· Residents who report they are ill will be provided food trays. In addition, we are cancelling scheduled housekeeping and routine maintenance in those apartments;
· We ask you to limit visits to Hallowell Hall and Taylor Hall can so that we can avoid a recurrence there. If you do visit, please wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water before entering and again upon leaving.

Re: Illness
Outbreak Update
Greetings.
We have some good news. The restrictions on Hallowell Hall and Taylor Hall resulting from the recent gastrointestinal virus have been lifted. Thanks to all who complied with the restrictions, with special thanks to the staff working in licensed care through this recent episode.
We have seen some new incidents of illness in the campus clusters and Stony Run Hall over the weekend. As noted previously, a person who has been ill during this outbreak must remain at home for 48 hours after his/her last symptoms. Campus cluster residents are to report symptoms to OPD who will arrange for meal delivery, as needed. Staff are to report symptoms to their supervisor.
Our current plan includes:
· Sending trays to all campus cluster and Stony Run residents who are ill, as well as cancelling any scheduled housekeeping or routine maintenance in those apartments;
· Limiting your visits to Hallowell Hall and Taylor Hall so that we can avoid a recurrence there. If you do visit, please wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water before entering and again upon leaving.
Please see me, Barbara Carroll, Medical Director, Heather Heiler in OPD or Kris George on Hallowell Hall with question.

Re: Illness
Outbreak Update
Greetings.
We continue to experience incidents of a gastrointestinal virus affecting residents and staff, now primarily in the licensed care areas of Hallowell Hall and Taylor Hall. We have seen no new incidents in the campus clusters and Stony Run Hall since early last week.
Symptoms include nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. As noted previously, a person who has been ill during this outbreak must remain at home for 48 hours after his/her last symptoms. Campus cluster residents are to report symptoms to OPD who will arrange for meal delivery, as needed. Staff are to report symptoms to their supervisor.
As a result, we will continue with our plan for the licensed care areas:
· Refrain from visiting Hallowell Hall and Taylor Hall. If your work requires you to be in those areas, please wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water before entering and again upon leaving. Alcohol hand gels typically do not kill these viruses.
· Residents living in Hallowell Hall and Taylor Hall are limited to their rooms, with meals being served to them and all group activities cancelled; Staff working in licensed care are restricted from use of the Arbor Café.
· We will lift the above restrictions in the licensed care areas as soon as we have gone 4 days with no new occurrences;
· As of today, we are resuming campus cluster apartment cleaning and wellness classes. The pool and exercise room are open as usual.
· We will reschedule the Welcome Coffee planned for tonight (Monday, January 30th) due to the increased opportunity to spread the virus through hand contact in the receiving line. All other events and activities in the Community Center can proceed as planned.
Please see me, Barbara Carroll, Medical Director, Heather Heiler in OPD or Kris George on Hallowell Hall with questions.

Re: Flu Outbreak
Greetings.
Broadmead is currently experiencing an outbreak of a gastrointestinal flu. This is affecting residents and staff in all areas, though the higher incident rates are in the licensed care areas of Hallowell Hall and Taylor Hall. Symptoms include nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. Per the Baltimore County Health Department, a person who has been ill during this outbreak must remain at home for 48 hours after his/her last symptoms. Campus cluster residents are to report symptoms to OPD who will arrange for meal delivery, as needed. Staff are to report symptoms to their supervisor.
In the meantime, following consultation with our medical staff, we are implementing the following plan with the hope of slowing the virus:
· Refrain from visiting Hallowell Hall and Taylor Hall. If your work requires you to be in those areas, please wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water before entering and again upon leaving. Alcohol hand gels typically do not kill these types of viruses;
· Residents living in Hallowell Hall and Taylor Hall are limited to their rooms, with meals being served to them and all group activities cancelled;
· Campus cluster apartment cleaning is cancelled for this afternoon through the weekend;
· Wellness classes are cancelled and, the pool and exercise room are closed through the weekend.
Please see me, Heather Heiler in OPD or Kris George on Hallowell Hall with questions.
